Forge of Empires Review

Mobile strategy game Forge of Empires

Innogames, who brought us Tribal Wars and Grepolis all those years ago, recently released Forge of Empires for the iPad, and OSG1 is here to give it a test-drive. It’s a online strategy game whose design relies heavily on player engagement. Plan and build your city, train a few troops to do battle, and tap, tap, tap for resources. Conquering new territory is performed by way of a turn based battle with NPC enemies. There is even some PvP in the form of turn based duels.

Forge of Empires has a strong single player campaign, and complex city planning which is what this game does well.

Travian 3d

online strategy games 2012

It’s 2012, and welcome back to OSG1! We’ve been taking a break for the holidays, but now we’re ready to bring you the latest in browser based strategy games.

I’m actually quite happy to report that I’m actually surviving so far in the latest Travian Tournament (tx2.travian.com), thanks to my awesome sitter and another player who’se letting my troops keep the stools warm at his bar. I was also surprised to recently catch some new Travian ads in 3d! The first is an official ad, followed by what looks like a separate pass of a 3d Praetorian army just to show off their work. Check them Out

It’s time for another contest, brought to you specially by Tororin, the winner of previous! I really liked the last contest, but thought we needed more entires, so now is your chance! All you have to do is post a comment filling in this sentence: “You know you’ve been playing ____ too much when…” Insert your favourite mmo browser game into the blank, finish it off, and you’re done. At the end of next week (June 3rd) I’ll pick my favourite and the winner will get 10€ of virtual currency for their game. Entries will be judged based on humour, cleverness, applicability, and, most importantly, how much I like them. Feel free to enter as many times as you want! For examples of entries, just see the previous contest! No fair copying.

Cheers,
Oliver

OSG Popularity II

Following on on my previous posts regarding OSG popularity I did another, more extensive Alexa search and am happy to share the results. Granted, as with last time this isn’t a completely accurate analysis as I’ve only referenced the most popular domain, so I haven’t taken travian.de or travian.us into account, both of which are very popular. Further, some games share a domain (for example, Freeksy and Lods Online are both subdomains of igg.com) and so their numbers are combined.

I’ll confess some of this is rather surprising. I had no idea that eRepublik was so popular, and thought Utopia Kingdoms would do better than it apparently has. Anyway, hopefully this information can be useful for players looking to join a thriving game community, and for any future OSG developers to know what they’re up against.

Cheers,
Oliver
