TC8: Day 88

My Travian nemesis, Archer, had a busy night!

Why he thought it was a good idea to commit 100 soldiers after his entire scouting party was lost is beyond me. Why he sent his 666 Imperion to Glamis instead of to Athenry is beyond me. But I was feeling pretty smug this morning. Of course now he’ll probably be plotting revenge for weeks. I definitely see what randomgeek1 means about the battles being tilted towards the defender though.

Cheers,
Oliver

oh, seeing as i recently posted about art theft, i should mention i stole Demon Hunter‘s logo.

TC8: Day 85

Whoah, I hadn’t realized how long it’s been since my last update.

I’ve managed to re-build my third village and have most of my mines up to level 6 now, and of course have a slew of crannies. Things aren’t going as well for the rest of my alliance though. Somehow I’m the top player. Even the alliance leader is asking me for help but I’m hardly in a position to give any. Recently he’s being constantly attacked by 500+ troops and catapults are bombarding his city to dust, and there’s nothing we can do about it. I wonder if this is a balance issue with the game?

If I’m being constantly attacked by a stronger player, there is no hope of defeating him militarily. The only thing I can really do is build crannies so that it’s not worth his time to attack me. However, if I’m being constantly bombarded by another player, there is nothing you can do. Soon all your fields will be reduced to ash and you’re pretty much helpless to stop it.

The problem is that it doesn’t cost the attacker anything. In Ikariam, when you send an army to attack you have to pay extra upkeep on the army, so the general rule is don’t attack if what you get from looting doesn’t make up for the cost. This ensures that the lower level players aren’t farmed out of the game just for the fun of it. In Travian, however, the strong players have no reason not to just bombard every weak player they can find. They probably do it just because they’re bored. Afterall, they’ve already invested alot in building these catapults; they might as well use them.

I’d suggest that making catapults a 1-time use would vastly improve the balance of the game, i.e. a catapult can only be sent into one battle and then is destroyed. It would ensure that no one gets demolished for no reason. The stronger players could keep blasting each other to hell, and the smaller players could stay under the radar and, hopefully, slowly grow their empire. That’s my take on it at least.

Cheers,
Oliver

TC8: Day 74

But why!? As I mentioned in my last Travian update, I founded a new village. A few hours later it had already been destroyed by Saphira. For some reason he had to catapult my New Village to hell. Well, now I’ve re-built and have raised a few structures. Hopefully this settlement will survive…

TC8: Day 71

Behold, Cranny City!

I’ve found that the most effective way for me to keep the bulk of my resources is to keep them in crannies. I realized that most other structures I could build (Academy, Stable, Armory, Blacksmith, etc) are just to improve my military. Since my village is getting hit by armies of 100 or 200 troops every day, the likelyhood of me raising a decent army from here is nil. So, might as well use the building plots for crannies. I guess it’s worked out alright, ’cause I just ordered my 3rd city to be built today!

Cheers,
Oliver

TC8: Day 66

Travian Chronicles: Day 66 of server 8.

The KNAVE! I had just sent a horde of resources to my new village to build my first settler, and in the time between when they got there and when I next had a chance to log in Archer from Head Shot comes and raids me to hell.

He normally attacks every other day, but 8 hours sooner than he did this time, so I thought I would be in the clear long enough to come back and click build. It shows he’s a smart player though; it’s a great strategy to vary the times you attack. Alas, I guess I really need a sitter. Anyone know the best place to get one?

Cheers,
Oliver

TC8: Day 55

My second town has been around for 10 days now. It’s interesting how much easier it is to develop my second town! I’ve already got a Residence Level 8 and am hoping to get a third town before too long, which might be as far as I can go before Culture Points become a problem. I’ve had to upgrade Athenry’s marketplace a few times to keep the resources in transit.

TC8: Day 50

Happy 50th day of Travian Server 8!

The last few days in Travian have been going pretty smoothly. I’ve leveled up my new residence to start generating loyalty and otherwise have been expanding resource fields. I used some of the free gold to activate my plus account (the building que has helped tremendously during the first few levels of resource fields that only take a few minutes to upgrade) and now I have access to the plus-statistics. Seems I’ve been growing pretty stadily, with a jump thanks to the new village. (note that a lower rank is best).

TC8: Day 48

Sonuva…

As soon as I ordered my new village construction I went to the airport and grabbed a flight. By the time I landed my new village had been raided four times by archer from village head shot (-40|41 if you’d like to seek vengeance for me).

By now I’ve got a cranny and working on getting some loyalty, but it’s amazing how quickly new villages get picked off.

Cheers,
Oliver

TC8: Day 45

Success! After the previous difficulty I asked for help from my alliance. We stationed a lot of troops in my village until I was able to build all three settlers. By the end I had about 100 troops and even someone’s hero protecting my settlers, and one of my mates stationed his settlers there as well. So, I just founded my new village.

Cheers to everyone who helped out,
Oliver

TC8: Day 39

Tragedy!

I had finally built my first settler, but hadn’t thought about keeping him alive. I was able to avoid one incoming attack by sending him away, but he got killed later when I was offline. Keeping three of these guys alive is going to be quite a challenge when I still get an overwhelming raid every couple days…

Also, it seems alot of my title-dates were wrong. I usually just count up from my last post, but since I’m in a different time zone than the WordPress sever, I’ve been losing days every now and then. Hopefully this should set it right.

Cheers,
Oliver
