Tales of Aloriah, pt1

Well, it has begun. After the poll I started a game of Aloriah on the new Valhalla server.

I think it’s been a pretty good start. I was quick to upgrade my mines as high as they would go, then did the same for my most of my other structures. I commission a mighty hero, Gorogorosama, and sent him out into the world.

I have a nice little spot on the edge of the mainland. Feel free to visit sometime, but be warned: Aernoud has tried twice now to stir up some trouble; it did not go well for him.

A few days into the game and my village was aching for some silver. None of my buildings could be upgraded any further without it. My research was cranked to the max and I could see it coming, but there was one problem. Based on current estimations, I wouldn’t discover Silver until one hour after I was supposed to leave for what was to be a nice night in Ukraine. I thought it would be a shame for the silver to piling up in my village, unused because I would’t be able to issue commands.

But then, the fog of war parted, a there in the distance Gorogorosama saw a tall obelisk promising to grant the knowledge of the gods. Quickly he rode across the country side, with his legion of berserkers by his side, to study the monument. Sure enough, this accelerated my research and I was able to issue enough build commands to last the night.

Now, one week into the game, Gorogorosama is prepared to escort a settler to my new village. The only question is where? For those that don’t know, Aloriah is different from most OSG’s in that the end game is known right from the start and it’s merely up to the players to reach it. Eventually I’ll have to make my way inward to the center of the world to slay the Mother Dragon. So the question is, do I move inward now to the Dry Steppes, which will take me closer to my goal, by is further away and more dangerous. Or, do I sail outward to the Tropical Islands and lay a solid foundation to support my future journey inward? Let me know what you think.

Cheers,
Oliver

i don’t think it is possible to gain access to the villages in Dry steps… as it takes 5 settlers (and from knowledge; a very strong/large army, due to the fact of the Black dragons wondering around. but i am not in this server so who knows maybe there is a different scenario going on) but yeah, build a nice army up then set sail to tropical islands and then set up a good base as this unlocks gold income and therefore better troop/buildings… but also don’t leave it undefended as there are small groups of wondering/starving animals that will attack every now and then. my tropical island is more resource based than anything else as the second village also unlocks both the item shop and the marketplace… but i focused on getting my home army in my first village bigger so that i would be ready for Dry steps… and yet i wasn’t as i came across a village which attacked me… and then four rather strong Black dragon armies that wiped out my troops i went from 700 berserkers, 150 Bear riders, 20 Trolls and 50 wolves… all the way down to 70 Berserkers, 5Bear riders, 1Troll and no wolves… but as settlers aren’t involved in battle i didn’t take and casualties with them… luckily enough…

all of this is based on my own experience in the game and therefore may not be correct on the new Valhalla server…

I would recommend at least 1k Berserkers (preferably 2k) before you move to Dry Steppes. Otherwise, you could struggle if there is a Black Dragon spawn close to your village. Thus, I would recommend going to the Tropical Islands first.

The new valhalla server has the same settings as midgard so everything from midgard applies to valhalla as well.

Just wanted to share with you all that we finally migrated valhalla to a new server provider today. This means that you will all experience a lot better performance and I guess we all like that, don’t we? :D

Be careful in Dry Steppes as the dragons are pretty unpredictable and very dangerous. I would also suggest going out to Tropical Islands as this is much easier and will get you into the game for real!

And just another side note; it’s not silver – it’s iron! ;)

    Good luck gaming!
